Communication through OBD
In OBD applications, the device connects to the vehicle’s diagnostic port using the appropriate cable. On supported systems, operations such as key or remote pairing are performed through the vehicle. Requirements can vary across models and years within the same brand.
An OBD port alone does not establish key programming support. Read the system, year range, operation type and accessory notes together in the relevant application entry.
EEPROM and MCU applications
EEPROM and MCU applications work with the memory or microcontroller of the relevant electronic module. Connections vary by module; use the adapters and connection illustrations specified by the manufacturer. Some operations may require work on the module itself.
Coverage determines the operation
Do not treat EEPROM as a universal substitute for every OBD operation. First verify support for the vehicle and system, then check the application’s connection and software requirements. A model appearing in a list does not by itself confirm support for every key scenario.
